10 years of Happy Ending: Saif Ali Khan, Govinda, and the quirky world of Raj & DK

It's been a decade since Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K. (Raj & DK) helmed the romantic comedy Happy Ending. The film starring Saif Ali Khan, Ileana D'Cruz, and Govinda in the lead roles is popular for its quirky romance and chartbuster songs composed by Sachin-Jigar. The film also had special appearances from Kareena Kapoor Khan and Preity Zinta, which have been a reunion of sorts with Saif on the big screen. 

All you need to know about Happy Ending

Saif Ali Khan portrays Yudi in Happy Ending, a one-hit wonder who embraces love despite its challenges. He engages in numerous unhealthy relationships, including one with Vishaka (Kalki Koechlin), a borderline psychopath who persistently stalks him. Only his best friend Montu (Ranveer Shorey) and ex-girlfriend Divya (Preity Zinta) provide him any solace. In addition to Yudi blowing away all of his book riches, his publishers commission the stunning Aanchal Reddy (Ileana D'cruz), whose romance novels are bestsellers, which is the cherry on top. The opportunity to develop a screenplay for Armaanji (Govinda), an actor seeking a comeback, presents itself to him. Yudi decides to befriend Aanchal in the hopes of discovering her secret to success. Despite Yudi's ulterior motives, Aanchal agrees to stay with him and avoids falling in love with him. In what ways will Yudi's affections for Aanchal cause him difficulty? What is Vishaka's likely reaction to this? Is he going to be able to recover and make a triumphant return with Armaanji's film? All of this contributes to the rest of the film's plot.

Unusually for a film, Saif Ali Khan appears as a guest star even though he plays the primary role. In the cameo, the actor plays Yogi, an alter-ego to his main character Yudi.

Kareena Kapoor Khan's special appearance

Earlier, while talking about Kareena's cameo in Happy Ending opposite Saif, Raj & DK stated that the amount of interest in the actor is so high that, in fact, they have had people asking them if she danced in the movie. They hold the belief that the viewers also share this desire. Having said that, they resisted such an approach. The filmmakers would have given Kareena an item number if they had needed a gimmick. However, they have ensured that each job is significant and that a performer conveys their message well. Kareena has a very defined and attractive appearance.

Meanwhile, Amitabh Bhattacharya, Priya Saraiya, and Ashish Pandit wrote the lyrics, and Sachin-Jigar composed the score for Happy Ending. Interestingly, the film reprises Meher Meher, Sachin-Jigar's composition from the Telugu film D for Dopidi, as Jaise Mera Tu.
