Udta Punjab

Based on and revolving around the rampant drug abuse by the youth of Punjab and the various conspiracies surrounding it, Udta Punjab is a Hindi crime-drama film that follows a rock star, a migrant labourer, a doctor and a policeman who find themselves struggling to cope with the ensuing chaos rising out of the drug crisis. The lives of a successful Punjabi musician known to his fans as Gabru and a Bihari migrant worker nicknamed Bauria who dreams of playing national level hockey gets entangled due to the drug epidemic. Meanwhile, Preeti Sahni, a social activist and doctor and Sartaj Singh, a junior policeman, attempt to uncover the root of the drug epidemic eating away at Punjab. Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, who co-wrote the film alongside Sudip Sharma, the film has been produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor, Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane, Aman Gill, Vikas Bahl, and Madhu Mantena under the banners of Balaji Motion Pictures and Phantom Films. The film features performances from an ensemble cast that includes Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Diljit Dosanjh, Satish Kaushik, and Suhail Nayyar among others. The film's cinematography has been directed by acclaimed filmmaker and cinematographer Rajeev Ravi, with Meghna Sen handling the edit. The film features original songs from Amit Trivedi, with a background score from Benedict Taylor and Naren Chandavarkar. The film garnered critical and commercial acclaim, with it receiving 9 nominations at the 62nd Filmfare Awards — winning 4 awards including the awards for Best Actress (Alia Bhatt) and Best Actor - Critic (Shahid Kapoor).
