Travelling with the Jinju

Vibrant and colorful make-up, timeless stories and long hours on the road define the lives of the travelling opera troupe who keep Jinju alive. Going from village to village in the remote countryside of northern China, they perpetuate an art form that has survived for centuries only to be threatened by urban migration. Despite the dwindling numbers of their audience, the performers are not shaken in their certainty that the show must go on. This film offers an experience of the cultural magic and beauty of China, and a glimpse of its real and imagined history through the tales of the Jinju.
