The historic epic film by Robert Eggers is based on the legend of Amleth, a prince in medieval Scandinavian legend. The Scandinavian prince is also the inspiration for William Shakespeare’s character Prince Hamlet, from the tragedy Hamlet, Prince of Denmark. Co-written by Eggers and Sjón and with cinematography by Jarin Blaschke, the film explores how far a Viking warrior prince will go to seek revenge for his murdered father. The film stars Alexander Skarsgård in the lead with Nicole Kidman as Queen Gudrún, Anya Taylor-Joy as Olga, along with Björk, Willem Dafoe, Ethan Hawke, and Claes Bang. With editing by Louise Ford, the movie marks Björk’s daughter, Ísadóra 'Doa' Barney’s debut in this film by playing the character of Melkorka.
