The Home and the World

Satyajit Ray’s directed, The Home and the World is a Bengali romantic film released in the year 1984. The film is based on the novel written by Rabindranath Tagore named “Ghare Baire”. The film stars Swatilekha Sengupta, Soumitra Chatterjee, Victor Banerjee, Jennifer Kendal and several others. The storyline of this film is set in 1907. Nikhilesh, performed by Victor Banerjee lives with her wife Bimala, performed by Swatilekha Sengupta. They both are living happily in their married life. However, their relationship is tested when Sandip, an extreme man, enters their lives. But Nikhilesh always supports and understands her and tells her to gain knowledge of not only the interior, but the outer world as well. The film gained an award for the Best Feature Film in Bengali at the 32nd National Film Awards.
