The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford is a 2007 American English - language film directed and written by Andrew Dominik. It is an epic revisionist film starring Brad Pitt, Casey Affleck, Sam Shepard and Jeremy Renner. The film is based on the 1983 novel written by Ron Hansen that goes by the same name. The film dramatizes the relationship between Jesse James and Robert Ford and it especially focuses on the events that result in titular killing. The film follows the story of two brothers - a brother to one of the members of the James Gang, Robert Ford idolizes Jesse and wants to fit in during a time when the gang is not really active in their criminal activity. Ford eventually turns from a groupie after James has settled down to wanting the notoriety of being the one who is responsible for bringing him to justice. The beauty of the story telling along with the wonderful country winter scenes makes this into an art form that is really enjoyable while watching. This movie is slow paced and at the same time historically accurate.
