Shershaah is a Hindi biographical war film based on the life of Captain Vikram Batra, a Param Vir Chakra awardee who was killed in action during the Kargil War in 1999. The film was directed by Vishnuvardhan in his Hindi film debut and stars Sidharth Malhotra in the titular role alongside Kiara Advani as Batra's girlfriend, Dimple Cheema.The film begins with Batra's brother Vishal delivering a TED Talk on his brother's life. The film then cuts back to Batra's childhood, where his fearless nature is evident. He grows up with a desire to join the Indian Army, and his dream comes true when he is selected for the Indian Military Academy.After completing his training, Batra is posted to the 13th Jammu and Kashmir Rifles. In 1999, the Kargil War breaks out, and Batra's unit is tasked with recapturing the Indian posts that have been captured by the Pakistani Army.Batra leads his men from the front, displaying extraordinary courage and leadership. He is known by his code name, "Shershaah," which means "Lion King." He plays a key role in the recapture of several important posts, including Tiger Hill and Point 4875.During the Battle of Point 4875, Batra is severely injured, but he refuses to be evacuated until he ensures that the post is secure. He eventually succumbs to his injuries and is posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest military decoration.Shershaah is a stirring tribute to Captain Vikram Batra and his sacrifice. It is a story about courage, patriotism, and the indomitable spirit of the Indian soldier.
