Shatranj Ke Khilari is an Indian film. The film is produced by Suresh Jindal, written and directed by Satyajit Ray. The film is based on Munshi Premchand’s short stories with the same name. The film was also the first Hindi feature film by director Satyajit Ray. It was released on March 11, 1977, and the cast of the film includes Sanjeev Kumar, Shabana Azmi, Farida Jalal, David Abraham, Victor Banerjee, Richard Attenborough, Amjad Khan, and Saeed Jaffrey. Shatranj Ke Khilari is set in 1856 when the British are about to annex the Indian State of Awadh. The film is about two men who are devoted to chess. The film was India’s entry for The Best Foreign Language Film at the 51st Academy Awards
