Seven Pounds

The story of Ben Thomas, a man haunted and burdened by an incriminating and bloody secret. In order to reverse a grave crime he committed, Ben sets out to reverse the luck and save the lives of seven individuals. The American mystery-thriller drama film is written by Grant Nieporte and directed by Gabriele Muccino, released by Columbia Pictures. Will Smith, Michael Ealy, Barry Pepper, Rosario Dawson, Octavia Spencer, Tim Kelleher, Woody Harrelson, Elpidia Carrillo, Judyann Elder and Bill Smitrovich star in prominent roles in the film produced by James Lassiter, Will Smith and Steve Tisch. The film's narrative style that keeps the audience blindsided till the reveal made critics compare Seven Pounds to Jean-Pierre Melville's Le Samouraï. In fact, prior to its release the trailers and teasers for Seven Pounds maintained the mystery surrounding Will Smith's characters. The title itself is inspired from Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice.
