Directed and edited by Rajkumar Hirani, Sanju is a Hindi biographical comedy-drama film that chronicles the life of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, depicting his struggle with drug addiction, his incarceration for his association with the Bombay bombings of 1993, the relationship he shared with his father, Sunil Dutt, his comeback in the film industry following the controversies, the eventual drop of charges on him from the Bombay bombings and his release after completing his prison sentence. Ranbir Kapoor, who underwent an impressive physical transformation, plays the role of Sanjay Dutt, alongside performances from Paresh Rawal, Manisha Koirala, Dia Mirza, Vicky Kaushal, Anushka Sharma, Karishma Tanna, Jim Sarbh, and Sonam Kapoor among others. The film also features Boman Irani and Arshad Warsi who appear as Dr. Jagdish Chandra "JC" Asthana and Sarkeshwar "Circuit" Sharma of the Rajkumar Hirani film starring Sanjay Dutt — Munna Bhai M.B.B.S, through archive footage. Sanjay Dutt himself appears on the end credits song "Baba Bolta Hai Bas Ho Gaya". Co-written by Rajkumar Hirani and Abhijat Joshi, the film has been produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Hirani under the banners of Vinod Chopra Films and Rajkumar Hirani Films. The film's music has been provided by Rohan-Rohan, Vikram Montrose, and A. R. Rahman who appears as a guest composer. The film has garnered much acclaim, gaining seven nominations at the 64th Filmfare Awards for the categories Best Film and Best Director, with Ranbir Kapoor winning the award for Best Actor and Vicky Kaushal winning for Best Supporting Actor.
