Premam, released in the year 2015, was directed by Alphonse Phuthren, with Nivin Pauly and Madonna Sabastian in the leads. The director has been appreciated for the existence of love in its pure form in his script and portraying the idealistic approach from the actors. It also has a remake in Telugu with the same name released in the year 2016, with Naga Chaitanya and Shruti Haasan. This coming of age romantic drama explores the love life of George committed by Nivin, who experiences love for three different females at three different parts of his life. Premam fell into a huge controversy regarding its piracy after it appeared online with a watermark indicating that it was a "censor copy." While producer Rasheed was on the verge to resign due to lack of action after the leak was discovered, three teenagers were arrested for this crime. Later, the owners of cinema theatres emerged in a protest regarding the piracy issue, thereby shutting down the theatres.
