Jibu Jacob mesmerized his audience with Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol, especially when he was not sure if the story was worth his direction. Jacob finds confidence after reading the short story "Pranayopanishath" by V.J. James published in Mathrubhumi Azhchapathippu magazine. This script of transformation sets an example for all the married couples out there, consisting of required comedy elements with Mohanlal’s charms and exceptional performance. The efforts shown by the protagonist towards his wife undoubtedly, justify its tagline 'My life is my wife.' Mohanlal, in the role of Ulahannan, is tired from his boring lifestyle with his wife and children and attempts to bring some change. He tries to mend his mid-life crisis by having an affair with an attractive Julie. Later, he realizes his mistakes and brings changes towards his monotonous life in other ways, thus discovering the importance and beauty of his wife and rediscovering himself. This Malayalam blockbuster would have fallen onto Vidya Balan’s destiny as Jacob had approached her for the lead role in place of Meena. Vidya could not commit to the role, even after liking the synopsis due to her scheduling conflicts.
