Mohabbatein

"Mohabbatein," a 2000 Hindi-language musical romantic drama film, is a creation of Aditya Chopra, produced by Yash Chopra, and stars Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Aishwarya Rai, along with newcomers. The film explores the story of Narayan, the stern principal of Gurukul college, who opposes his daughter Megha's romance with Raj, a music teacher. The plot centers on Raj's efforts to help three Gurukul students and their love interests challenge Narayan's strict anti-love stance.

Initially intended as Aditya Chopra's directorial debut, "Mohabbatein" is his second film, inspired by themes from the American movie "Dead Poets Society." The film boasts a budget exceeding ₹100 million and was filmed in the United Kingdom between October 1999 and July 2000, with Manmohan Singh handling cinematography, Sharmishta Roy designing the sets, and Karan Johar overseeing costumes. The music is composed by Jatin–Lalit, with lyrics by Anand Bakshi.

Upon its release on October 27, 2000, "Mohabbatein" received widespread acclaim and achieved commercial success, becoming the highest-grossing Indian film of the year with earnings of ₹900.1 million. At the 46th Filmfare Awards, the film secured multiple nominations and won several awards, with praise for performances by Bachchan and Khan.

The plot revolves around Narayan, Gurukul's strict principal, who disapproves of love and threatens expulsion for any romantic involvement. Nevertheless, three students—Sameer, Vicky, and Karan—fall in love. A new music teacher, Raj Aryan, joins Gurukul and advocates for love. Raj's plan helps the students reconnect with their loves, but Narayan retaliates by expelling them. Raj challenges Narayan, highlighting that his stringent policies led to his own daughter Megha's suicide. This revelation forces Narayan to change his stance, and he resigns, leaving Raj as the new principal. The film concludes with reconciliation and a change in Gurukul's atmosphere.
