Tovino Thomas stars as a criminal on the run in Mayaanadhi and forms the plot with the survival and struggle for love with Aishwarya Lekshmi, who acts as an aspiring actress. Tovino, as John Mathew, is in big trouble when he kills a police officer. While he has to move out of the country, he also plans to meet his beloved Aparna before leaving. The couple struggles to be with each other the entire time, which portrayed them being in love in moments of trouble as well. This romantic thriller expresses a thug in love and striving to attain survival with the love of his life, which connects with viewers and handsomely displayed by Aashiq Abu, the director of Mayaanadhi. He shares his view of love through the characters of John and Aparna. Although there were many critics finding similarities between Mayanadi with the 1960 French film, "Breathless", Aashiq rephrased it by saying that his movie is only a reference from Breathless. Even after watching the movie, it appears to have some similarities to Breathless, but Aashiq, with his creativity, evaluates and transforms the scenes to another level. Mayaanadhi, with its exceptional protagonists, delivers a soothing and emotional climax that stays with the audience even after it ends.
