Les Misérables, a 2012 movie, is directed by Tom Hooper, streaming on Amazon Prime Video and Netflix. It is an epic historical period musical drama film, based on the 1962 French novel of the same name by Victor Hugo. The movie stars Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, Russell Crowe as Javert, and Amanda Seyfried as Cosette. The movie is set in 1815 when a French prisoner Jean Valjean gets released from the Bagne of Toulon after serving 19 years for stealing a loaf of bread, breaks his parole, and starts a new life. Eight years later, Valjean is a factory owner and mayor of Montreuil, Pas-de-Calais, but is suspected by Javert, a new chief of police. The movie was nominated for eight Academy Awards and was critically acclaimed and applaud for Hugh Jackman and Anna Hathaway’s acting skills laced with an incredible storyline laced with an emotional wallop.
