LA. Confidential, a 1997 movie, is directed by Curtis Hanson, streaming on Amazon Prime Video. It is a crime and drama film with a gist of mystery, based on the 1990 novel with the same name by James Ellroy. The movie stars Kevin Spacey as Jack Vincennes and Guy Pearce as Edmund Exley. The movie is set in the early 1950s when LAPD Sergeant Edmund Exley volunteers to testify against the other officers in the “Bloody Christmas” case in exchange for promotion to Detective Lieutenant. Edmund is determined to live up to the reputation of his father. Later, Edmund and Jack Vincennes investigate an apparent botched robbery and multiple homicides at the Nite Owl coffee shop. Even though the case seems to be solved, Exley and White individually investigate it to discover evidence of corruption. While Russell Crowe turned down the movie due to the tough character he was asked to play, Izabella Scorupco also turned down her role as the leading character. The movie captures the sloppy side of Los Angeles and includes the corruption withholding by the police laced with shady dealing around the corners. The film came out receiving positive reviews with satisfactory applause.
