Hotel Rwanda is a film inspired by the true events that took place at the Hotel des Mille Collines in Kigali, the capital city, in 1994. When the Tutsi guerrillas and government-backed Hutu militia conflict grows into a large-scale genocide, Paul Rusesabagina, the hotel manager, risks it all to provide safety to more than a thousand refugees. Directed by Terry George, known for In the Name of the Father, 1993, this historical drama stars Don Cheadle (Crash, 2004) in the lead role along with Sophie Okonedo (The Secret Life of Bees, 2008), Joaquin Phoenix (Joker, 2019), Hakeem Kae-Kazim (Godzilla vs. Kong, 2021), Desmond Dube (How to Ruin Christmas, 2020) and Nick Nolte (Warrior, 2011). It is the recipient of 16 award wins and 49 nominations, including winning the 2005 Stanley Kramer Award at the Producers Guild Awards.
