Guru, a 2007 movie, is directed by Mani Ratnam. It is a biography-drama movie, starring Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The film is loosely based on Dhirubhai Ambani and such businessmen, who lost or sacrificed essential elements of their life to get their business on top. Gurukant Desai from northern Gujrat, dreams to excel in life, to achieve something big. His father, Kantilal, on the other hand, warns him against dreaming so higher as it never comes true. Guru visits Turkey to get into the spice trade and hit it off, but when promotion follows, he backs out. Guru tends to do business for himself, where there is no boss above him. Guru marries Sujata, from his village. The main reason being the dowry she brings, which could help his business. He started his business in trading clothes in Bombay and expanded enough to set up his manufacturing unit, under the name,’ Shakti Corporation’. Later, due to Guru’s dishonesty towards the way he obtains success, a newspaper "Swatantra" ("The Independent"), published by Manik Dasgupta tries to expose him. Guru goes through a stroke because of stress and suffers from paralysis on the right side of his body.
