Gadar: Ek Prem Katha

Tara Singh, a Sikh truck driver falls in love with Sakeena Ali Singh, a Muslim woman from an aristocratic Muslim family. They get married but are separated shortly due to the religious tensions preceding the 1947 partition of the Indian subcontinent. Unable to stay away from his partner, Tara travels to Pakistan and attempts to retrieve his wife back to India but not without numerous challenges on the way. Gadar: Ek Prem Katha is a Hindi period drama action romance film written by Shaktimaan Talwar and directed by Anil Sharma documenting an interfaith couple's struggle to remain together before and after the partition. Released worldwide alongside the sports drama Lagaan in 2001, the film went on to become the second most-watched Hindi film in India since the 1990s as well as the highest-grossing Hindi film. Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel played the lead characters with Om Puri as the narrator and received nominations for Best Actor and Actress at the Filmfare awards that year. A sequel to the film titled Gadar 2 was released in 2023 with Deol, Patel and Sharma reclaiming their roles. Amrish Puri, Lillete Dubey, Vivek Shauq, Utkarsh Sharma and Suresh Oberoi also star in Gadar: Ek Prem Katha as supporting characters. Distributed by Zee Telefilms, the music score for Gadar was handled by Uttam Singh.
