Dev.D

Dev D written and directed by Anurag Kashyap was released on 6 February 2009. It revolves around Paro (Mahi Gill) is a lower-middle-class girl living in Punjab, Dev (Abhay Deol), the son of a rich businessman and Leni a.k.a Chanda (Kalki Koechlin) who is a prostitute during night and student by day. Dev is an arrogant man who is sent to London by his father due to his lazy behaviour to finish his studies. Meanwhile Paro stays back in India awaiting his arrival. Chanda on the other hand is trying to complete her studies in Delhi. Her father commits suicide out of shame and disgust when her sex tape gets released. Her family sends her off to live in a small rural town but the girl comes back and works as a prostitute called “Chanda'' to pay off her college fees and bills. Due to her foreign looks as she is from a half-European descent she charges high fees. Dev comes back to India, he and Paro get back together but after learning rumours of her reputation and sexual history, he leaves her. Later on he learns that the rumours were false but by then Paro already married a man of her parent’s choice. Dejected, Dev turns to alcoholism and stumbles across Chanda who takes care of him and tries to make him a better man.
