Damini

Damini, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi is amongst one of the biggest female led films of that era. It was released on 30 April 1993 and revolves around Damini (Meenakshi Seshadri) who falls in love and marries a rich businessman, Shekhar Gupta (Rishi Kapoor). Damini sees Shekhar's younger brother, Rakesh (Ashwin Kaushal) and a couple of his friends raping Urmi (Prajakta), their maid. She runs off to Shekhar and the two stop to save her but it’s too late. Damini goes to the police. The matter and files a case in the court. Damini is proved as a mentally unstable person and is sent to a mental institution by court order. Damini escapes and runs away and finds an alcoholic lawyer, Govind (Sunny Deol) who helps her reopen the case. Sadly Urmi dies in the hospital but in the end Damini, Govind and Shekhar get justice for Urmi and Rakesh is arrested.
