Celluloid is a 2013 Indian Malayalam film directed by Kamal. This is a biopic drama film which follows the story of J.C. Daniel and his ambitions to make the first ever Malayalam movie of India. The film is set in the decade of 1920’s. J.C. Daniel loves cinema. He is obsessed with it so much that he wants to create the first ever Malayalam movie. He does everything he can - sells personal property for funds, writes letters to Dadasaheb Phalke, buys the apparatus and finally makes the movie. Vigathakumaran - the first Malayalam language movie is created. Trouble begins when a lower caste woman, Rosie, in the film portrays an upper caste woman. People outrage and Rosie leaves town. Celluloid then gives us an after experience of J.C. Daniel’s life, how he and his wife lived after this incident.
