Black Venus

Based on the shocking real life of Sarah Baartman, Black Venus is a historical drama directed by Abdellatif Kechiche. The film tells the story of Saartjie, a black woman from colonial Africa, who becomes the victim of racist voyeurism across Europe in the 19th century, as her body is exposed and presented to audiences as a freak-show attraction under the name “Hottentot Venus”. Starring Yahima Torres in the lead role, the film also features performances from Olivier Gourmet, Andre Jacobs, Elina Löwensohn, François Marthouret, Jean-Christophe Bouvet, and Jonathan Pienaar.
