Upon receiving the news that his estranged father Edward Bloom is cancer-stricken and will soon pass away, his son William Bloom decides to meet his father after three years of no communciation. As his dying father continues to tell tall fantastical tales like he has always done, it is upto a frustrated Will to separate the man and myth. The American fantasy drama film is written by John August and directed by Tim Burton, based on the 1998 novel Big Fish: A Novel of Mythic Proportions by Daniel Wallace. The film unfolds in a series of fairy tale narratives evoking the a Southern Gothic fantasy aura. Big Fish stars Ewan McGregor, Albert Finney, Billy Crudup, Jessica Lange, Helena Bonham Carter, Alison Lohman, Robert Guillaume, Marion Cotillard, Steve Buscemi and Danny DeVito in lead roles.
The movie gathered various accolades including four Golden Globe Award nominations, seven nominations from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, two Saturn Award nominations, and an Oscar and a Grammy Award nomination for the film's original score composed by Danny Elfman.
