Bhaag Milkha Bhaag was directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. It is a biopic on Milkha Singh’s life. The movie was released in 2013 and is available on Disney Hotstar. After the partition there was religious violence all over India which caused the death of Milkha Singh’s (Farhan Akhtar) parents. He lived in impoverished refugee camps with his sister and stole food to survive. There he falls in love with Biro (Sonam K Ahuja) who asks him to stop this stealing. He ends up noticed by a havaldar (sergeant) who recruits him for service commission. He is beaten by seniors before the race but still ends up winning, breaking the national record. During the Melbourne 1956 Olympics he fell for the granddaughter of his Australian technical coach. He is convinced by the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to lead the Indian team in Pakistan. He ends up winning the race remembering his father’s words “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag”.
