Directed by Paul Verhoeven, and distributed by Pathe, Benedetta is a French film that is set in the 17th Century and based on the book Immodest Acts: The Life of a Lesbian Nun in Renaissance Italy by Judith C Brown. The plot of the film pivots around a nun who becomes tangled in a lesbian affair during the Rennaisance. However, it is her religious visions that threaten to shake the Church to its very core. The film stars Virgine Efira, Daphne Patakia, and Charlotte Rampling in lead roles, among others.
