"Beast" is a 2022 Indian Tamil-language action comedy film, written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. The movie features Vijay, Pooja Hegde, and Selvaraghavan in key roles. The storyline revolves around an ex-RAW agent, Veera Raghavan, who embarks on a mission to rescue hostages held by terrorists in a shopping mall.
The film's production rights were initially acquired by Sun Pictures, and it was intended to be directed by AR Murugadoss. However, after a dispute over remuneration, Murugadoss was removed from the project, and Nelson was brought in to craft a new script, resulting in "Beast." Principal photography commenced in April 2021 and concluded in December, with shooting locations spanning Chennai, Delhi, and Georgia. The film boasts Anirudh Ravichander as the music composer, Manoj Paramahamsa as the cinematographer, R. Nirmal as the editor, and D. R. K. Kiran overseeing production design.
The story follows Veera Raghavan, an ex-RAW agent, who suffers from PTSD after inadvertently causing the death of a child during a mission. He meets Preethi at a wedding and joins her security service company. When terrorists take control of a mall, Veera, Preethi, and others must outwit the terrorists and save the hostages.
"Beast" was released in theatres on April 13, 2022, and received mixed reviews from critics. However, it proved to be a commercial success, grossing between ₹217-300 crore worldwide, establishing itself as one of the highest-grossing Tamil films to date."
