ASHQ “Tears” is the 1980s story of an independent middle-aged Pakistani filmmaker (Gulzar) whose film is shortlisted – the only one from South Asia, for Award and is invited by the London Film Committee at the Award ceremony. Since, Gulzar is unable to join the ceremony due to his ailing mother’s scheduled operation during the same dates, the film committee decides to record his “winning speech” with a replica award in his hand, as an alternate way to show at the ceremony, in case Gulzar wins the Award.
