A Dream Of A Widow - A Assamese Short Film

In our country, every village and the suburbs have many illiterate women who are dependent on their husbands for their livelihood. However, if the husband dies unexpectedly, the widow's life with her children becomes extremely difficult. Similarly, Momee, being such a widow, struggles throughout her life to educate her only daughter in a rural Assamese society. After her husband’s early death, Momee started farming vegetables and selling milk to educate her daughter Bidisha, who is the only soul of her life. Utilizing the natural resources, she earns her livelihood and overcomes every hurdle to make her daughter a dignified person in the village. Perhaps imparting education is the only dream that she and her husband have always felt necessary for their daughter since they were illiterate due to poverty. With her utmost effort and hard work, Momee successfully educated her daughter and made her an administrative officer, but she couldn’t survive to see the success of her daughter. But her daughter always acknowledged her mother's sacrifice and struggle. Being illiterate, Momee could very well feel the importance of education, which is the primary tool for women's empowerment. Bidisha, who later became a revenue officer, has always taken on the responsibility of providing Government assistance to impoverished families in the village. Perhaps she is very keen on providing help to illiterate widows in various areas within her reach. People who once stood as a hurdle in front of her mother now come to her asking for help. Finally, Bidisha inaugurates a recreation centre for illiterate widows and middle aged people for their education and creative development so that they can be self-sufficient and independent. This can be used as a new model of empowerment for illiterate widows and middle aged people in our society. Here, young people will be employed for part-time service to educate and develop such people in such centers.
