Jim Sarbh kicked off a discussion on the Internet with his recent statement on actors and how they prep for their roles. The actor spoke to Chalchitra Talks and shared that actors "exaggerate" their preparation for their roles. Now, during an exclusive interview with OTTplay, Ayushmann Khurrana and Ananya Panday were asked to weigh in on Jim's statement.
Ayushmann Khurrana's reaction:
When asked about his opinion, Ayushmann exclusively told us, "I also believe in switching on and off very easily when the camera is rolling, and I don't take the character back home. I'm not really a method actor, and if I really required that kind of preparation like Andhadhun, maybe I should learn how to play the piano, or maybe I should emulate a blind man's actions and reactions. I tried that for three to four months. But regularly, I am not a method actor. But every person's and every actor's method is different, and whatever works for you—and it really doesn't matter until it looks great on camera—goes with the narrative. I think it's all cool. Even if you're taking your method seriously, maybe you've been working on it for like six months, or maybe you're just switching on and off like I do. Both are fine, and it really depends on you what kind of prep you want to go for."
Ananya Panday adds her point:
Ananya went on to reveal that even some actors, like Deepika Padukone, share their process. She stated, "Exactly, whatever floats your boat, and I don't think anyone can decide for someone else. It's a very personal thing; sometimes actors don't even like to share. I know that Deepika doesn't share her process. It's something that keeps changing. I discovered minor changes when I did Gehraiyaan; some days I am able to switch on and off, some days I can't, no matter how hard I try. It really depends on the actor."
What Jim actually said:
For the uninitiated, Jim had earlier said, "When you get to play with complicated emotions, that’s your dream. So it’s weird, because you're experiencing pain as your character, but you're experiencing great pleasure as an actor being given the opportunity to explore those emotions."
The actor also further added, "And you know, there are all those actors who are like, ‘You know, I was so stuck in my character that I had to get mental therapy for weeks after’. I was like, ‘Shut up, bro. You didn’t even know your lines on the day; what nonsense!'"
How other actors' reacted:
Several actors, including Gulshan Devaiah and Adarsh Gourav, commented on Jim's statement via Instagram comments, to which even the latter responded. Take a look below:
