In a recent exclusive interview with OTTplay, filmmaker Raaj Shaandilyaa opened up about the casting decisions for his highly anticipated film Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video. The director, known for his successful films Dream Girl and Dream Girl 2, shared the intriguing process that led to the casting of Triptii Dimri opposite Rajkummar Rao in the film.
Triptii Dimri cast opposite Rajkummar Rao, not due to Animal
Shaandilyaa revealed that the decision to cast Dimri was not a result of her performance in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Animal (2023), in which she starred opposite Ranbir Kapoor. Instead, the desire to introduce a fresh pairing to the screen drove the decision.
Triptii Dimri chosen over other popular actors
“Before Animal, I watched Laila Majnu. Yeh tha ki I really wanted a girl jo naya pair laye Rajkummar ke saath (I really wanted a new pairing for Rajkummar),” Shaandilyaa explained. “At that time, he was working with Janhvi Kapoor on Mr & Mrs Mahi and Shraddha Kapoor on Stree 2. Toh main ab bola naya kya loon? (So, I thought, who should I pick as a new pairing?). Bhumi Pednekar ke saath mujhe karni nahi thi, already dusri film kar chuki thi usne, toh kya karu? (Bhumi Pednekar was already cast in another film, so I didn’t want to repeat that pairing.) Phir zehen mein aaya, why not Triptii? (That’s when I thought of Triptii Dimri.)"
Shaandilyaa continued, "I approached Bhushan Ji (Bhushan Kumar, producer) and suggested Triptii as an option." He immediately agreed and contacted her. She was enthusiastic about the role, and that’s how she came on board.”
