Varun Sood's web series Naam Namak Nishan recently premiered on Amazon miniTV. The actor shared screen space with Helly Shah and Danish Sood in the series. During the show's promotions, OTTplay exclusively interviewed Varun, who shared his thoughts about casting that happens based on one's social media following. The actor feels there's no certainty to it.

Varun Sood on the changed casting process

In conversation with us, Varun Sood said he hasn't experienced this scenario personally. The actor mentioned he has a decent amount of followers on social media and yet he has been rejected for shows. "I have been rejected for shows where I didn't fit the part. People who do casting according to character is great. That should be how it is done," the actor said.

Varun further mentioned, "Agar aap kisiki social following dekhke (casting) kar rahe ho, toh aap tukka (fluke) khel rahe ho... whether it will work or not. There's no certainty in that." The actor believes one's work and craft are important. "And if your selection is happening based on that, then there's nothing better than that," added Sood.

His co-star Helly Shah, who was also a part of this chat, shared her take as well. Sharing a personal experience, the Naam Namak Nishan actress stated, "I was called once for an audition, where they were like 'We are looking for somebody who has this or this (amount of) followers'. It happens and I think it is not fair."
