Gullak is one of the most popular shows in the OTT space. The series started with its first season in 2019, followed by two seasons that were released in the last few years. As of now, the makers are gearing up for the release of Gullak 4. The show will be streaming on SonyLIV and OTTplay Premium starting June 7, 2024. Ahead of its digital release, OTTplay exclusively interacted with Vaibhav Raj Gupta, who plays the role of Annu (Anand Mishra) in the TVF show.

Vaibhav Raj Gupta on Gullak 2

In an interview with us, Vaibhav Raj Gupta revealed how Gullak 2 benefited from the first season of the series. The actor admitted that the first season of Gullak wasn't really successful. "I feel season one utna ye (successful) nahi hua tha because both SonyLIV and the show were new at that point. It was a very simple show," he said.

Vaibhav further mentioned, "But the ones who saw it, even if 50 people saw it, at least 50 fans ban gaye the and then word-of-mouth publicity hogayi thi. And when the second season came, 2nd season ne first ko utha liya (season two picked up the first season). Recall value badh gayi (recall value increased). So, everyone watched the 2nd season first and then saw the first season. Later, they saw the first and second seasons together. That's how it started rolling."

Jameel Khan on audience response to Gullak 1

In the same conversation, Jameel Khan, who plays Santosh Mishra in the show, also added that the response to Gullak 1 wasn't great. The actor told OTTplay that the second season reached a wider audience as people had to time watch OTT content at home during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Although I am not very active on social media, whatever little I saw on it, second season onwards (the love) started pouring in and it just multiplied with every season," added Jameel.

The fourth season will have Jameel, Geetanjali Kulkarni, Vaibhav, Harsh Mayar and Sunita Rajwa reprise their characters from the previous seasons.
