Jaaved Jaaferi is gearing up for the release of his web show, The Magic of Shiri. Directed by Birsa Dasgupta, the series is finally scheduled to be released on JioCinema after a year-long delay. In this show, Jaaferi plays the role of a magician, Jaadugar Saleem. He also essays the role of a mentor to Divyanka Tripathi Dahiya's Shiri Shroff. Now, in an exclusive interview with OTTplay, Jaaved Jaaferi spoke about his real-life mentor and the one thing that he hoped vanishes from the film industry.
During a conversation with us, Jaaved Jaaferi was asked about the one that he felt should disappear from the film industry. The actor said, "I would like politics in the industry (to vanish). People should make films without agendas and false narratives. You make a film, a story — it (cinema) is a medium, convey good things. Aag lagi hai toh aag bujhaye aur jaha nafrat hai toh pyaar failaye (extinguish the fire and spread love where there is hate). Cinema ki ek zimedaari hai (Cinema has a responsibility). That's my wish.".
As the conversation continued, Jaaved spoke about the person whom he considered his mentor. The actor revealed that his father Jagdeep had a big influence on him professionally during the initial stage.
"The way his journey had been and the way he held himself as an actor — kabhi bikhar nahi gaye. Majboori bhi thi aur responsibilities — you can't have the luxury that main aise roles nahi karunga ya I will not do this or only do this... not everybody has that luxury," shared Jaaved.
Jaaferi further revealed that the same thing happened to him. "There were responsibilities so (I thought) thoda compromise karlenge and I had to compromise a few times. But yes, whatever I did, I never compromised in those things. Sometimes when you see somebody's life or hear what they say — there are a lot of people who inspire you. There's no one person as such. There are a lot of aspects about people — personal, professional, and more. You get inspired by people on a philanthropy or professional level and by their work ethics," he added.
Meanwhile, Jaaved Jaaferi's web show, The Magic of Shiri, will be released on November 14, 2024. You can watch it on JioCinema and OTTplay Premium.
