Shoumo Banerjee has played a crucial character in Aditi Roy’s directorial, Noshtoneer, on Hoichoi. Besides, he is a regular face on TV. His new venture Biyer Phool has started on Sun Bangla. The actor is now also gearing up with a new character, Feluda. Shoumo will be seen as Satyajit Ray’s iconic sleuth character in Ankur Natyadal Kolkata’s Golapi Mukta Rohosyo. The show will be premiered on September 16 at Gyan Manch. Directed by the group’s veteran Subhadip Chakrabarti, the play will feature Jay Badlani.

In a chat with OTTplay, Shoumo talked about how he bagged the role. “Agnijit (Sen) and I work together in a play, Sudipa Basu’s Drishti Konya. On a random rehearsal day, Agni suddenly took a photo of me. The next day he called and said that I would be playing Feluda in his group’s production,” said the actor.

By his confession, it is a dream-come-true moment for Shoumo. “Feluda is an idol for an entire generation. I started reading Feluda during my childhood. Byomkesh came a little later in our lives. I think every Bengali actor wants to play Feluda (or Byomkesh). I also dreamt of playing Feluda. And then this happened. When you dream of something and it comes to you, it becomes a magical experience,” he said. The rehearsals started in June and are now going in full swing.

How is he managing time after web series and TV serials? “If there is a will there is a way,” said the actor. “I studied microbiology – a subject far from my profession. I came to acting because of my passion for it. No matter how much we try, TV and web works don’t always let your creativity flies. Theatre does. Before coming to Kolkata in 2008, I started my acting career with theatres in Mumbai. I started working again on stage in last one year or so. I work with Sudipadi and Debeshda (Chattopadhyay). And now this one came along. I am very happy,” said Shoumo.
