It's a casting coup that the makers of Rana Naidu cracked by bringing the real-life uncle and nephew, Venkatesh Daggubati and Rana Daggubati, together on screen for the first time. The actors will be seen as reel-life father and son in Netflix's upcoming series, Rana Naidu. When the official adaptation of Ray Donavan was announced, fans couldn't contain their excitement to see Venkatesh and Rana together in a Hindi series.
Ahead of the series' release, we talked to the Baahubali actor in an exclusive interview. He told us about working with his uncle for the first time. When asked what kind of stories they were looking for in their first collaboration, Rana stated, "There wasn't a certain type of story we were looking for. But we were clear about what we weren't looking for. Also, I'm doing something by myself; it's fine, and he does independent stuff too. But when we're coming together, you just want something to be really right. You want it to be special, and you want it to be new. And we found that in the show Rana Naidu."
The trailer gives a glimpse into their first encounter with each other in the series, and it's filled with heavy and crass language. While talking about the whole sequence, Rana revealed, "Well, obviously, we knew the script; this is what we were doing. We understood our characters pretty well. This is what we live for. We live to live in somebody else's shoes, and I love the fact that I was able to."
The actor added, "These are characters we never imagined we'd play. This is so far off; that's the fun of it. The fact was that it was in Hindi, still further away from our comfort zone. So the language didn't matter; it didn't matter what I was saying to him. But I had fun, and that day will be special for sure."
Rana Naidu is premiering on Netflix on March 10, 2023.
