The second season of Mumbai Diaries is out, and the response is just getting better for the show. The staff at the Bombay General Hospital is the subject of Nikkhil Advani's television series, and this time they are dealing with the dangerous Mumbai floods. Interestingly, the second season looked into the past of Parambrata Chattopadhyay's character, Dr. Chitra Das, played by Konkona Sen Sharma, and revealed that she had endured domestic abuse at the hands of her husband. In an exclusive interaction with OTTplay, the actor was asked about her character being delved deeply into this angle and portraying a saviour as well as a survivor.
Konkona shares insights into Dr. Chitra Das's past:
Konkona exclusively told us, "I had an idea that we would go down this path. Even in season one, though we don't see explicitly the reason why she is like this, I already knew the past was going to be something this way. I am very glad that in season two they decided to delve into it and explore it in depth, but with a lot of responsible research and with a lot of respect. Because this is actually a very common problem, unfortunately, it happens to many women today. Domestic abuse is very common, but there is very little legal recourse."
The Wake Up Sid actor added, "There are a lot of women who are very educated and financially independent yet are unable to break out of the cycle of abuse for various reasons, understandably. This is something that is usually brushed aside and none of our business, and it's not really dealt with. So I am really glad that we have brought it forward this season; it's been handled with a lot of care, I guess."
Empowerment message:
Konkona concluded by saying, "I also want to say that all women should be financially independent because then you have choices."
