Kota Bommali PS is the latest cop drama that features a host of popular Telugu actors. Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar plays a cop, and in this detailed interview, the 'Krack' and 'Naandhi' actress talks about her role, smoking on screen, doing character roles, and working with the likes of Srikanth.
My role in Kota Bommali PS has a lot of importance in the narrative
Kota Bommali PS features Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar in the role of a cop. When asked about her character, she says, "This is the first time that I have played a cop in a Telugu film. In the Malayalam original 'Nayattu', my character has no equivalent. The weight of my character in the Telugu adaptation is much more significant".
I always wanted to do a cop thriller in Telugu
When asked what made her choose this film, Varalaxmi says, "Investigative thrillers have become a trend these days. I have always wanted to try a variety of characters in Telugu. 'Kota Bommali PS' offered me a platform and I am super thrilled to see how my role will be received by the Telugu audience."
The cat-and-mouse game is one of the highlights of Kota Bommali PS
Varalaxmi has teamed up with seasoned actor Srikanth for the first time. When asked about the same, she says, "The cat-and-mouse game involving Srikanth Garu and me is quite interesting. He too is a cop like me and I have only a few combination scenes with him. He is a simple and sweet human being and a dedicated artist."
The highlight of Kota Bommali PS
Kota Bommali PS is the official remake of the Malayalam hit Nayattu and has been altered for the Telugu audience. When asked about the same, Varalaxmi says, "The film's storyline has changed a bit and my character has been given a twist. What happens when one of the cops goes berserk and becomes a criminal? This will be quite interesting to watch in the film".
I have smoked on screen for the first time
When asked about her preparation to play the cop, the star actress says, "This is the first time that I have smoked in a film. It was a funny experience to pretend like I was enjoying it. After the director called 'cut', I would feel a bit of discomfort". I also worked a lot on the body language of my character and made sure the fans got to see me in a new avatar.
I am a very conscious actor
Varalasxmi has contrasting characters in all her films. Speaking about the same, she says, "As an artist, I have to submit to the character. I have always been conscious of playing roles that are remembered by the audience. I play roles that others can't play. I am happy to be in that space."
Kota Bommali is not a political movie
Going by the trailer, one gets a feeling that Kota Bommali PS has a backdrop of politics. When asked about the same, Varalaxmi says, "This is not a politics-heavy movie. But a few lines allude to the electoral system. It's not against any party. It is about voting behaviours to a small extent".
