Kajol's OTT series debut, The Trial, is finally streaming on Disney+ Hotstar. The series is the Hindi adaptation of the hit American TV show The Good Wife, which aired between 2009 and 2016. This is the first time Kajol has appeared in an official adaptation of a title and donned the role of a lawyer for the first time. However, over the years, the actor has maintained that, in terms of remakes and adaptations, magic cannot be recreated. During an exclusive interaction with OTTplay, Kajol was asked about the same and also cited the example of the Tum Kya Mile song from Karan Johar's upcoming film, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, where people are comparing it with Shah Rukh Khan and her song, Suraj Hua Maddham, from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.

The actor exclusively told us, "I don't think magic can be recreated. That's my opinion on it, again. I wouldn't say that people have not succeeded in making wonderfully beautiful things. But I would say that magic, for me, cannot be recreated. I don't think DDLJ (Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge) in today's day and time, even if you took Shah Rukh and me, could be done in the same way. Again, what we felt, then what we were, is what made the film what it is. Even for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai or even for Sholay, for that matter, whichever film you take or whatever song you take, even if it's remixed today, the original is the original."

Kajol added, "The feeling that that gives you is something that no other version of it can give you. It's a different feeling, and it's not the same feeling that you get from it."

While talking about The Trial being an adaptation of The Good Wife, the actor went on to say, "As far as our particular show is concerned, the great part about it is that we have not recreated The Good Wife. Yeah, we've taken a concept, we've taken an idea, and we've taken a basic storyline, and we had to create our own because, at the end of the day, we're basing it in India; we're basing it in a completely different society in almost a different time, because it was like, long ago, this is where we started. So it's a different time, a different society, with completely different rules, different regulations, and different judgments."

Kajol and Suparn Varma have confirmed that there will be further seasons of The Trial. This will be the first time the actor will be returning to a character, as she has never been a part of any franchise. When asked if it would be easier for her to get back to a character after a gap, Kajol stated, "I don't have a problem getting into or coming out of a character."
