Payal Rajput is back with her favourite director, Ajay Bhupathi, who launched her with Mangalavaram. The film is up for release on November 17, 2023, and in a detailed interview, Payal speaks about her role, working with Ajay Bhupathi again, the special highlight of her film, and how her career is back on track. Here is the transcript.
I approached Ajay to cast me in Mangalavaram
Director Ajay Bhupathi launched Payal Rajput with the hit film RX100. The popular actress says that when she got to know that Ajay was auditioning for Mangalavaram, she called him right away and showed interest in the film. Ajay asked her to wait and when he did not find anyone, he came back to her and finally Mangalavaram happened.
I have never played such a role in my career
Payal plays the role of a village belle named Shailu, who goes through several problems. "You will empathise with my character a lot. I have never played such an intense role and the character gave me a lot of scope to showcase my acting prowess. My performance is going to be one of the highlights of Mangalavaram," says Payal.
Managalavaram will be a path-breaking film in Telugu cinema
Payal is very confident and says that Mangalavaram will be a path-breaking film in Telugu cinema. "A subject like Mangalavaram has never been tried before in the Telugu film industry. The twists and turns will keep you hooked to your seats. I am very nervous and curious to see how the audience will receive the film," says Payal.
Ajay Bhupathi is a tough taskmaster and never compromises
Payal says director Ajay Bhupathi knows her strengths and weaknesses as an actor, as he launched her in RX 100. "But in this film, the character I play has dark and intense emotions. Until I got those emotions right, he (Ajay) wouldn't say 'cut'. Playing Shailu took a toll on me mentally. To get out of the role, I visited my mother and stayed with her for two weeks away to get back to normal," says Payal.
The background score by Ajaneesh Loknath is the backbone of the film
Mangalavaram has some great visuals and the music is composed by Ajaneesh Lokanth of Kantara fame. Payal says that half of the credit should go to Ajaneesh, as his BGM has elevated the film to another level. "The audience will enter the world of Mangalavaram through his music and rustic visuals in the film. He has done a great job," says Payal.
I have learned from my mistakes
Payal started her career with a bang and even did big-hero films. But by choosing the wrong projects, her career took a nose dive. Speaking about the same, Payal says that because she had no guidance, she signed bad films and suffered a lot. "Mangalavaram is a film that will bring me back into the game. I have pinned a lot of hopes on this film, which will bring the best out of me," says Payal.
