Six years after Bypass Road, Neil Nitin Mukesh returned with his new project, Hisaab Barabar. Directed by Ashwni Dhir, the satirical thriller featured Neil as Mickey Mehta, the owner of Do Bank. Set against the backdrop of financial fraud, Hisaab Barabar was released on ZEE5 on January 24, 2025. Post the film's release, OTTplay did an exclusive interview with Neil. The actor revealed the challenges of playing Mickey's character in the film.
In conversation with us, Neil Nitin Mukesh said his character Mickey Mehta was thought to write. The actor revealed his character needs a certain flair to get into the real world. Explaining his point, Neil told OTTplay, "Normally in a commercial film, when you play an antagonist, you have the tendency to make him slightly larger than life — and obviously being prepared for the downfall, right?"
The actor further mentioned, "Here, it was tough. Why? Because while you were trying to make Mickey Mehta larger than life and get in that entertainment portion, you were playing him with a bit of a comic bone in him and also balancing him out in a very real space. He can't be even over the top, because Radhe Mohan (played by R Madhavan) is such a relatable character, he's a guy next door. So, suddenly Mickey Mehta can't be so over the top that he stands out."
Neil added that Mickey's character had to be balanced out well. This became a challenge for acting as well as writing point of view. The actor he never played a character with comic flair like Mickey before.
"I've done multiple antagonists. So this was the first - to be goofy, to break down in a dance, suddenly out of nowhere, getting out of a car, wearing a coat jacket, etc. So that just gives your audience also a bit of a comic relief. At the same time, you're putting in a very strong message," shared Neil.
Hisaab Barabar, also starring R Madhavan and Kirti Kulhari, has been streaming on ZEE5 and OTTplay Premium since January 24, 2025.
