Exclusive! Trina Saha: I want to play grey characters like Priyanka Chopra in 7 Khoon Maaf

Trina Saha is excited about her upcoming release Shrimati. Directed by Arjunn Dutta, the family drama also features Barkha Sengupta, Swastika Dutta, Soham Chakraborty and others. Trina plays the character of Brishti, Soham’s sister, in the film that deals with feminism, freedom of choice and body positivity. 

Talking about her character, Trina says that the role she plays is pretty close to her real self. “She is modern, outspoken and stands by what is right. Like me, she also feels that if you don’t love and respect yourself, nobody will. You will have to stand by yourself. Brishti is a relatable character, she is also pretty vocal and protective about her Boudi, Shrimati. In the film, we see that Shrimati wins once she starts supporting herself. Other people, who live around her, start supporting the popular opinions. But Shrimati decides to stand by herself and things start getting better for her,” said the actress. 

Shrimati delves into the life of a homemaker who gets derailed by the influence and expectations of the society around her. While Swastika plays the titular character, Soham plays her husband. 

Trina has been working on a popular television serial Khorkuto. Shrimati was shot during the pandemic. Meanwhile, Trina has been busy shooting for Anjan Dutt’s Hoichoi web series Murder By The Bay and Arindam Sil’s Iskaboner Bibi. “The shooting of Murder By The Bay is done. The second part of Iskaboner Bibi will start soon,” she said, adding that she is looking forward to work with Srijit in his dream project, Lawho Gouranger Naam re. Trina plays Lakshmipriya opposite Parambrata Chatterjee.

Trina is often seen as a peppy character on the screen. Talking about her dream role, the actress said, “Whatever character I play, I give my 500%. But I have not yet explored a dark character. I want to play a villain. Or a layered character with a lot of shades, like Priyanka Chopra in 7 Khoon Maaf,” said the actress.
