Exclusive! Arindam Sil on Sauraseni: I am not changing Feluda and the woman character is part of contemporising the story

After Byomkesh, Mitin Masi and Goyenda Shabor, Arindam Sil forays in the world of Satyajit Ray’s Feluda. After all the legal battles, the director will be making the sleuth series, Shabash Feluda for Zee5. Along with Parambrata Chatterjee as Feluda and Rwitobroto Mukherjee as Topshe, Sauraseni Maitra will be seen as an important character. Rudranil Ghosh and Ritwick Chakraborty will play important characters in the show. 

Ever since the first look of the show got dropped, Feluda took the centre stage on social media. While Parambrata’s look as Feluda received a positive response, it is Sauraseni, whose presence was criticised by Feluda fans. The season of Shabash Feluda is based on Gangtoke Gondogol. In the original text, there was no female character. The fans took to social media to express their displeasure with the addition of a female character to the show. Responding to that, Arindam said, “Sauraseni’s character does not have any love angle attached to her. Our Feluda is modern and in The IB team, she is an investigating officer. We have not changed the story but contemporised the plot. In today’s world, it is natural to have female officers in the police departments. In fact, if Feluda was written in today’s time, there would have been female characters. The story remains intact and we have just broadened the horizon of the case.”

Talking about Parambrata, Arindam said, “He is just perfect. His height, acting calibre and pan-India presence have made him the right kind of Feluda. He has stupendous technical sense and he is going to be a very successful Feluda on screen.” In fact, this is not the first time Parambrata will be playing Feluda. He has directed Sheyal Debota Rohoshyo on Addatimes where he has played Feluda. Riddhi Sen has played the character of Topshe.
