Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury is all set to make a comeback in the Bengali film industry after a decade. In 2023, his Buno Haansh, which features Dev, Srabanti Chatterjee, and Tnusree, was released. After that, the National Award-winning director got busy with his national projects, including Pink and Kadak Singh. After 10 years, Aniruddha is all set to make a film, Dear Maa, with Jaya Ahsan, Chandan Roy Sanyal, Saswata Chatterjee, and others. In a chat with OTTplay, the director talked about the film.

Aniruddha said that the seed of the film came to him from his friend. “My friend told me a story and that got stuck with me. Then I narrated the seed to Sakyajit Bhattacharya – a writer. Earlier, we bought the rights to one of his books and we became friends. We started brainstorming. My wife, Indrani also joined in. Finally, Sakyajit wrote the script. It was all about jamming together, writing, thinking, and enjoying. We all put together our ideas to develop a film. I bond well with people I work with and that, for me, is supremely important. The film is not just about destination, it is the journey with the people I work with. I love that journey,” he said.

By his admission, Aniruddha was keen to work in a Bengali film. “I badly wanted to do a Bengali film. It has been a while,” he said. Meanwhile, casting Jaya second time after Kadak Singh in his project, Aniruddha said, “There was another story, Cafe Kinara, by Aryanil Mukherjee, which I wanted to work on. In fact, I thought of casting her in that. Then I came across the idea of Dear Maa. I thought she would be perfect for this one. And also, when I sent her the script, she loved it.”

Dear Maa’s filming will start in the latter half of May. Avik Mukhopadhyay will be the DOP. Bickram Ghosh will compose the BGM.
