Gangs of Godavari is all set to hit the screens on May 31, 2024. Vishwak Sen plays the main lead and star heroine Anjali will be seen as the female lead. We spoke to her about the film, her character, mouthing cuss words in the film, future projects, and many other topics. Here is the transcript.

What made you select this film?

When the director Chaitu (Krishna Chaitanya) narrated this character to me, I was taken aback. It is a meticulously written role and it was the first time that such a character was offered to me. It is like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play such a bold role, and I said yes to the film right away, and here I am super excited about the film's release on May 31, 2024.

Your character says a lot of cuss words, did you have any reservations about playing it?

Yes, I had. When I heard the story and my character, it was certain that cuss words would be a part of my lingo in the film. I first asked the director, Krishna Chaitanya, whether all my dialogues would be passed by the censors. I had no issues mouthing them as it was something new for me but one needs to see how many cuss words are retained in the final copy of the film post the censors.

Tell us about your role in Gangs of Godavari?

I play Rathnamala, a girl from the Godavari region. I am loud, wear my heart on my sleeve, and bring a crazy twist to the film. My character in Gangs of Godavari will shock you. Vishwak Sen plays Ratnakar, and we have a special connection. What it is will be known only when you watch the film on the big screen. I just loved working on the film and am eager to see how my character will be received.

How did you prepare for the role of Ratnamala?

Gangs of Godavari is set in the late 90s. The women in the Godavari region had a special style of dressing, especially wearing loud makeup. We researched a lot when it came to my looks and dialogue. As I am basically from the Godavari region, it was quite easy for me to mouth the lines. But the slang was changed a bit, and every detail was followed to make my character special.

Working with the likes of Vishwak Sen?

Vishwak Sen is the heart and soul of the film. He plays Ratnakar and will stun you with his performance. We share a very special chemistry in the film, and you will know about it when you watch Gangs of Godavari on the big screen. His performance will be remembered for a long time, and I feel Gangs of Godavari is the film that will take him to the next level in his career.

Working with the likes of the director Krishna Chaitanya?

Krishna Chaitanya is a superb lyricist, and we all know that. But deep down, he is a better director. The way he scripted this crime drama, created a new world, wrote special characters, and extracted performances from one and all is the X factor in Gangs of Godavari. The film will entertain you completely, and thanks to Chaitu's racy narration, there is not a single boring moment in it.

Future projects?

I am done with the shoot of my role in Ram Charan's Game Changer. I am once again playing a very weird role in this film, about which I cannot talk about more. Apart from this, I have also signed three Tamil and one Telugu film. As of now, my hands are full, and I have no complaints about it. I am enjoying the new phase in my career.
