Bacchala Malli is all set to hit the screens on December 20, 2024. The film features Allari Naresh in the lead role. He speaks to us about the film, playing a grey character, sporting a new look, career choices, and the highlights of this action-packed family drama.
Post the success of Naandhi, director Subbu narrated the story to me, and I loved it. I agreed to the film at the very first meeting. This character is one of the most diverse roles I’ve played so far. It encompasses every variation except humour, giving me the scope to showcase my talent, which is why I agreed to the project.
Bacchala Malli is one of my favorite characters in my career as it offered me a lot of scope to perform. Malli is raw, rustic, and aggressive. Playing such a role after doing so many comedy roles was a welcome change. From the getup to the emotions, everything is quite rustic and will impress the audience. My character is based on real-life individuals from the director's village, which he reimagined for the film.
My director insisted that even the way I walk should reflect a certain intensity. He guided me to cry differently and ensured that every aspect of my performance was unique. He was very particular about making sure that none of my previous films' body language carried over into this role. This was quite challenging to achieve, but with my director's help, I managed to pull it off.
This story is set in the 1990s, and Bacchala Malli is a very rustic character. He drives a tractor and doesn’t take much care of his appearance. To bring out this look, we experimented with a reddish tint for the hair. These details gave me a fresh perspective and helped me perform the role more authentically. In a way, the character of Bacchala Malli will unleash my true acting prowess.
We’ve told this story with complete honesty, portraying every element in the most natural way possible. During fight scenes, it genuinely feels like the characters are fighting. The entire film has been presented in a realistic manner. In films like this, emotion is the key, and I believe the intense emotions in Bacchala Malli will resonate with the audience.
I admire Vishal Chandrasekhar’s music. Recently, all the songs from Sita Ramam were super hits, and I loved them. This film has four songs, and a lot of time and effort went into making them beautiful. The songs hold great importance in the film, and the background score has been crafted exceptionally well, promising the audience a truly memorable experience.
Comedy is my strength and the reason I’ve had such a long career in the industry. It’s my home ground, and I’ll never let go of it. Occasionally, I take on serious content films to strike a balance. My effort has always been to explore and deliver different kinds of cinema, and I will continue to do so.
