The New Jersey Economic Development Authority has mentioned that the latest addition to the franchise has been made at a budget of $82 million. This means each episode of the show has cost something around $13.7 million to make. This number has broken the record of The Walking Dead: Dead City which was made at $72 million, with each episode costing $12 million.
You might wonder why this number is so significant. Firstly, it is a television show, and the numbers there are never so huge. Secondly, one episode of The Ones Who Live is made at the cost of four episodes of the original series. The original The Walking Dead was made at a cost of $3.4 million per episode when it started. The number was brought down to $2.75 million in the latter seasons. Now you know the math. This means a lot has been invested in this spin-off.
But what led to a massive hike in budget?
While there are shows made at crazier budgets than this one, what shocks is the sudden rise in the production cost. This could simply be because of the inflation that has led to a monstrous rise in the cost of production. Then there is also promotions, marketing, and much more. The show is created by Scott M Gimple and Danai Gurira and stars Andrew Lincoln, Danai Gurira, Pollyanna McIntosh, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Terry O'Quinn, and an ensemble cast.
