One of the most terrifying real crime documentaries available on Netflix is The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. It tells the story of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer's terror reign in the United States from 1978 to 1991 and is based on his true narrative. Known by the nicknames "Milwaukee Cannibal" or "Milwaukee Butcher," he was America's most wanted serial killer for a considerable amount of time. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on May 21, 1960, Dahmer spent 13 years engaging in cannibalism, sexual offenses, and the murder of 17 men and boys. The ten-part documentary series won numerous awards and praise from critics.

The Confession Killer

In the Confession Killer series, Henry Lee Lucas, a self-described serial killer from 1980s America, voluntarily confessed to over 600 unsolved killings despite having no personal connection to the victims or proof linking him to the crime scenes. Nevertheless, by accurately drawing sketches of the victims and recollecting horrifying details of each of those horrible assaults and crimes, he convinced the authorities that he was accountable for the gruesome offenses. This documentary series explores the real story of Lucas, whose execution sentence was notably overturned by George W. Bush, the US president at the time.

The Ripper

This chilling miniseries on television delves deeply into the specifics of horrifying killings that occurred in York, a northern English area, in the late 1970s. Dubbed "The Yorkshire Ripper," Peter Sutcliffe was a murderer who preyed on and killed thirteen women in the Bradford and Leeds areas. He also molested numerous more. This four-part Netflix original documentary series follows the police, prosecutors, and witnesses as they reconstruct the actual events leading up to the horrific killings that occurred in a tranquil area of northern England between 1975 and 1980. These killings sparked the largest police manhunt in British history in an attempt to find the murderer.

Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer

Born in 1960, Ricardo Leyva Muñoz Ramírez, also known as the "Walk-in Killer" and the "Night Stalker" of Los Angeles, has been the subject of multiple films and a true crime docu-series on Netflix, which is based on his unimaginable crimes. Under the opulent façade of sunny California, Ramirez was an infamous killer, kidnapper, rapist, child molester, and burglar who carried out these midnight horrors in the 1980s. This documentary series eerily demonstrates how homicide detectives solve killings and track down serial killers to apprehend them. It features horrific crime scenes, unsettling historical videos, spooky cinematography, and in-depth details of their experiences with Ramirez.

Conversations With a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes

Theodore Robert Bundy, an American serial murderer born in 1946, abducted, killed, and sexually assaulted several defenseless young ladies during the 1970s. Before admitting to perpetrating 30 killings over several years in the early 1970s, Bundy denied his crimes for more than ten years. Conversations With a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes paints a vivid depiction of the ruthless killer, incorporating rare audio and video clips from the archives that were taken while Bundy was incarcerated as well as his well-known, spine-tingling interviews. Bundy was sensationalized despite the horrifying nature of his crimes because of his endearing appearance and amusing interactions with the media and the court, particularly following his 1977 escape from US custody in Colorado.
