The Scranton branch of the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company is where many of us found refuge years ago and still continue to be. The employees there were our virtual friends even before having virtual friends was cool. We all dreamt of applying for a job there, only so someone could write, ‘It’s Your Birthday’ for us annually. But alas, it was fiction, and The Office had to end its run. While we now continue to re-watch the show, forgetting the count of times we have already done it, the rumors of a reboot have been on the rise for a couple of years. Now, what if we tell you there is a development?
The Office Reboot:
Yes, you read that right. Just when we had lost hope that there would be a revival for The Office ever, the God Of The Employees listened to our prayers, and now we have a fresh update on the progress of The Office Reboot. As per the latest reports circulating on the internet, it seems like the show is finally moving forward, and the rumors that came out half a decade ago weren’t false; they were just taking time to turn more concrete.
We now hear that creator Greg Daniels is finally onto developing the reboot and is moving ahead with the idea. The creator has started building a writer’s room for The Office Reboot and is developing a fresh perspective towards the IP that took the world by storm in the 2000s. This news means that we are now a step closer to seeing the idea of a reboot turn into reality. Fans across the globe will celebrate this day for sure.
But What About The Streamers?
Universal Television was the one backing The Office when it was televised back in the 2000s. The studio right now is tight-lipped on the subject of The Office Reboot and has kept themselves away from the conversation, at least online. They even refused to comment on the same as per reports. This means there is no clarity on the platform that will back and stream the reboot. However, it is not a tough task for a show so widely popular to find a home.
But the fact that the nine seasons of The Office are streaming on both Netflix and Amazon Prime Video makes it even more confusing as to whose court the ball will fall. A bonus tip for India, it’s also on Jio Cinema.
What Is The Office:
Originally a British mockumentary that was released in 2002 with two seasons and six episodes each, was remade in the US with the same name and extended into nine seasons starting from 2005. The Office was about a working space and the stories of the employees who worked there. Having run till 2013, the show starred John Krasinski, Steve Carell, Jenna Fischer, Rainn Wilson, Leslie David Baker, Brian Baumgartner, Angela Kinsey, and an ensemble.
Over the course of almost a decade, The Office dominated all the streaming charts and was a record-breaking and setting show for the longest time. It is to date one of the best things to come out of American television, and even the cast has a fan base only because of the hit series.
The Office Reboot Storyline:
When NBCUniversal Vice Chairman Bonnie Hammer teased a reboot back in 2019, Greg Daniels was the first to shun it, saying that he would rather work on a spin-off that takes place in a similar setup than revive the ones that have already had their time. While nothing about the Reboot has been revealed as of yet, we can at least assume that the reboot will mostly not feed off the popularity of the IP and have a new life of its own.
While everything about The Office Reboot is in an adolescent stage, we hope that things move forward swifter than the last time. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more on this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
