Oscars 2024 makes buzz - Titanic to La La Land; 5 films with most nominations in the history of The Academy Awards

The Oscars 2024 fever has taken over the world, and there is no way any one of us can save ourselves from being excited about this. Over the years, the nominations have told the world what films to watch, and it became a ritual for many of us to do the race to Oscars and watch every possible film nominated for the big night. For many, the parameter for best films also became the ones nominated at The Academy Awards. So it is given that the movies that have turned out to be classics over the years and were also in contention for Oscars are indeed considered masterpieces.

Another competition that runs parallel to the same is the comparison of the number of nominations the film in the race garnered. For example, Christopher Nolan’s much-loved Oppenheimer this year has created history with the number of nominations it has received at the Oscars 2024. The Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr starrer has managed to bag 13 nominations, which is the highest this year followed by Poor Things, which has 11 in its kitty. Regardless of the wins they managed to bag, they have already made it big at the event.

So now as we are inching closer to the Oscars night with each passing minute, let us revisit five movies that have bagged the highest number of nominations and managed to even win the majority of the awards in various categories. Shakespeare In Love (1998)

Shakespeare In Love is a classic regardless of the awards and accolades the movie has managed to bag in the year of release. The movie where Shakespeare is suffering writer’s block and finds a lady who pulls him out of it only to end up writing Romeo and Juliet and play the parts as well. The movie was competing with many strong contenders. Just to give you a perspective, the movie beat Life Is Beautiful to win the Best Picture award in 1999. It won Best Original Musical or Comedy Score; Best Costume Design; Best Art Direction; Best Screenplay; Best Supporting Actress; Best Actress; and Best Picture.

Gone With The Wind (1939)

Gone With The Wind continues to trigger conversations even today, and the most recent was last year. However, the movie during its release was one of the most revered movies of the year and a couple more to follow. At the Oscars, it was nominated in 13 categories, of which it managed to win 8. The classic even made history with the first black woman winning an award in the acting category as Hattie McDaniel took home the trophy for Best Supporting Actor.

All About Eve (1950)

All About Eve was a first-of-its-kind cinema for the world where it was about a woman who enters the world of glitz with an unknown intention and the film grew on people successfully through the years. The film made a big dent at the Oscars that year and took home six trophies also including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actor.

La La Land (2016)

None of us can forget how La La Land was announced as Best Picture only to be called a mistake and take back the trophy. That year, the movie had 14 nominations, the highest ever at the Oscars competing directly with the cult classic Titanic. The Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone movie was one of the most loved films of the year as it took home Oscars for Best Actress; Best Film Editing; Best Original Score; Best Original Song; Best Production Design; Best Comedy; and Best Director.

Titanic (1997)

Sitting at the top of this list is Titanic which was the game-changer in the world of cinema for many reasons. The movie was the Oscars ruling like no one ever had, out of 14 nominations it had that night, it took home 11 awards, the highest ever. Regardless to say that the movie took home almost all the top honors that year with no room for anybody else to flourish.
